According to Egyptian mythology Ka is a life force existing apart from its “master”. That is a human soul. On the one hand it’s a story about Egyptian Pharaoh Echnaton giving his Ka to the Poet, the main film character, and a love story of Leyli and Medlum the heroes of Khlebnikov eponymous poem on the other hand. That is like eastern and western stars meet in the firmament.
The story takes place in Petrograd at the time of the First World War. Yet the Khlebnikov heroes live and travel across space and time to find themselves in Ancient Egypt and Syria, where Poet is to experience karmic transformations.
Then who is the main film hero, the Khlebnikov’s Poet or a writer himself who is fond of balancing on one foot and sleeping on the pillow full of his own manuscripts? That would be a hard question to answer even for the master of literary transformations himself.
