"The Role" entered into the Competition of the 35th Moscow International Film Festival"The Role" (Proline Film) by Konstantin Lopushansky starring Maxim Sukhanov ("The Horde", "The Country of Deaf", "Burnt by the sun") was selected to participate in the competition of MIFF, one of the most powerful festivals in Russia. The rest of the Competition programme will be announced at the end of May. It was announced by The 35th Moscow International Film Festival at the Russian Film Pavilion in Cannes.
"The Role" is about a brilliant actor in revolutionary Russia who takes on the greatest role of his life - the role of another man. Influenced by the ideas of symbolism and the Silver Age, he decides to slip into the life of his doppelganger – a revolutionary leader in the new Soviet Russia. First intrigued, then obsessed, he flings himself into the role and lives it to the hilt… even when the play of the life he is writing heads towards a tragic finale. Based on true incidents in the lives of Russia’s symbolists, this gripping film explores how far one man will go for the role of a lifetime.
Movie director Konstantin Lopushansky ("Letters from a dead man", "Russian Symphony", "The Ugly Swans")is an award-winner at more than 30 international film festivals (including the international "Ecumenical Jury Award" twice, at the Berlinale in 1995, and at the Moscow Film Festival in 1989).
