Presentation of the film "Kharms" at the IV Saint Petersburg International Cultural ForumOn December 14th at the General Headquarters of the Hermitage Building during the Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum the presentation of the project «KHARMS» of the Proline film studio took place. For the first time in cinematic history Daniil Kharms has been the subject of an artistic feature film, shot by the film director Ivan Bolotnikov.
In the run up to the Russian and world premiere, and in the framework of its promotional campaign, a poetry concert will be staged by the creative team of the «KHARMS» film project.
On the one hand, the poetry concert is the main event of the films promotional campaign. On the other hand it is a completely independent artistic project staged by the theatre director who will play Kharms on the screen.
The poetry concert «KHARMS and Ko» is a declaration of love towards Daniil Kharms, to the man and the poet, a gift of the film crew for the poets anniversary whose work is today more contemporary than ever, a modern dramatic form allowing one to speak to a young audience in its own language.
Taking part in the production are:
The conductor of the poetry concert - Wojciech Urbanski (in the role of Kharms)
Petersburg actors, involved in the film project: Andrey Feskov, Grigory Chaban, Andrey Matiukov, Vitaly Kovalenko and others.
Musical arrangement – members of the band Auktyon, who participated in the shooting of the film and the recording of the film’s soundtrack.
During the planned shows (Vilnius, Wroclaw, Skopje, Moscow) the main acting crew may be joined by:
Nikita Kukushkin (Moscow)
Aistė Diržiūtė (Lithuania, awarded Shooting Star at the Berlin International Film Festival 2015)
Darius Gumauskas (Lithuania)
At the heart of the poetry concert are the staging of Kharms’ verse, his prose, extracts from scenes and his diaries. These will be performed by the actors of the film.
Musicians, involved in the concert, also participated in the shooting of the film "KHARMS".
The conductor of the poetry concert and the player of the role of Kharms Wojciech Urbanski.
On the dramatic form of the show: I wanted to create the illusion of a stream of consciousness by Kharms, to mix his creations with his life.
About the musical accompaniment: Music is the flow of life with its sweeping changes, it creates the basis for a dramaturgy, texts(as though representing life events) are audible in the background, at times coinciding with the musical atmosphere and at times conveying a kind of counterpoint to it.
The plan of events for the promotional campaign of the film «KHARMS»
January 21st 2016 – The New Scene of the Alexandrinsky Theatre:
In the programme:
- a poetic study of the verses of Kharms (a fragment of the concert),
- an address by Kharms’ biographer, Valery Shubinsky,
- a performance of the soundtrack of the film by the musical band Auktyon,
- a photographic exhibition devoted to the work on the film,
- an exhibiton of the personal objects of Kharms, in the image and likeness of which were recreated the household items and interiors of Kharms’ flat - a presentation of the trailer of the film "KHARMS".
The premiere of the poetry concert to be shown under the working title of «KHARMS and Ko» will take place at the summer festival venue of the Anna Akhmatova Museum in June 2016.
